Mary King Looking Forward to Badminton 2015

Mary King Looking Forward to Badminton 2015

Our sponsored rider Mary King is competing at Badminton this weekend and we're so excited to follow her progress with her horse King's Temptress! Here is her recent blog about the run up to Badminton 2015:

Tess has just had her final run at Belton, in preparation for the Mitsubishi Badminton Horse Trials. It was a lovely weekend, made even better by Tess producing a pretty decent dressage test, and jumping a lovely double clear in the CIC***. I just went medium speed, so finished outside of the money, but now feel well prepared for ‘The big one’!!

Her preparation has not been plain sailing. She went beautifully at Aldon, her first event, but at Burnham Market CIC***, to my horror, she ran out at a right handed corner which she then had no intention of jumping :(  I had to become very creative at home building right handed corners with tyres, barrels, and pallets on different curving lines and got practicing with her!

I got a late entry in at Weston Park where she felt back on track, staying very straight at the accuracy fences, and then with success at Belton I am happy :) The other problem has been that we were put on the wait list for Badminton. Due to her time off last year she is very low on FEI points; but the wait list is shrinking fast, so I am very hopeful we will get in!!

Lottie has been progressing well. She was placed at the IN at Aldon, and went clear at her 2nd intermediate of her career at Somerley. But at Portman IN she became very strong XC , which was horrible! Weston Park intermediate was her next run. I felt she was being strong because she didn’t like the gag I had started to wear, so I bravely went back to a vulcanite pelham with a controller noseband, and this worked well, she was much happier. She is aiming for her first CIC** at Bicton next weekend.

My three homebred 5 yr olds are entered for their first event of their career at Bicton also, very grown up!

I sadly have sold Dan, who I owned, as we are building a new arena and I needed the money. He has gone to a lovely lady who is really enjoying him.

Emily’s season has got off to a great start with a number of wins and placings, including success at her 2 Young Rider trials.

We are off to The Olympic Park in London this week, which will bring back wonderful memories. But this time it is to support my son Freddie, who has qualified for the National Hockey Championships!

With the ground drying fast I have managed to fulfill a couple of XC schooling clinics, which had to be postponed due to February’s wet ground.

Had a lovely day at the Four Burrows Point to Point, where I judged the best turned out in each race.

Emily and I have just spent today doing a photoshoot for sponsors Bucas Rugs, luckily the sun shone!!
