These unique thinners have been designed to remove and thin thick coats more easily and quickly than a traditional curry comb.
Tips to help you on your way:
If you are using them to remove thick undercoats on ponies with Cushings and Donkeys and Shetland ponies who tend to be heavily coated all year round, continue to use them during the non shedding season (ie Spring) and they will actually thin the coat by cutting. Using them in the Spring time on all other animals as well, will allow removal of the winter coat to be done very quickly, as it will take out all the loose dead hair in a matter of sweeps as the head is so wide.
The blade width of these coat thinners is approximately 5", and they have a screw on the side, which allows the removal of the whole head enabling either replacement when blunt or changeover to the other grade of finish if required.
These tools are available in a coarse or fine blade finish. Coarse is good for very thick, coarse matted coats or particularly dense hair. Fine is good on finer, softer hair but where there is a lot of it, or for use after being initially groomed with the coarse blade.
The coarse blade has 30 teeth and has more space to allow thick hair to pass through. The fine blade is made up of 60 teeth, which are spaced very closely, allowing use on finer coats where it is able to pick and process more easily this type of hair. Replacement blades are available in both the fine and coarse.
These coat thinners can also be used to tackle feathers on the legs, although because of the width of them, we find the Smart Mane or Smart Tail thinner is easier to use in these areas.
They do not leave a smooth clipped finish, so please don't think they are like hand clippers, they do just thin, and really take out lots of the coat.
If the blades become clogged up with grease, scrub off using a nail brush and warm water and detergent. Allow to dry thoroughly and then oil - using clipper oil - sparingly. |
