Clipster Sonic
The battery powered Sonic trimmer is a quiet, neat clipper that has excellent clipping and trimming capabilities due to the ceramic shearing head. It has a powerful Ni-Mh 1200 mAH battery and includes a spare battery for uninterrupted use.
What makes this dog clipper particularly cost effective is the fact it is adjustable. There is a 5-stage cutting height adjustment and can cut at 0.8mm to 2.0mm. This means that this one unit will provide a variety of different clips for your dog, especially when combined with the 4 different combs that are included.
This is a handy, flexible trimmer that can do a variety of different jobs at a very respectable price!

Liveryman Bruno Dog
The Liveryman Bruno Dog clipper is a mains clipper that is ideal for most dogs. It includes a No 7 skip tooth blade, which is suitable for many dog owners. The skip tooth design enables the blades to easily get through the coat, and the No 7 leaves approximately 3.2mm of hair behind. The Bruno has a two speed switch, enabling more power for difficult coat conditions. It can be used by professionals, so it’s more than adequate for home use. A great all rounder!
Perfect For
- Frequent clipping of multiple hair types
- Nervous or young dogs that need quiet clippers
- Professionals and home users
Why we like them
- A great all rounder
- Takes the A5 snap on blade system
- No. 7 skip tooth blade included
Things to Consider
- Some reviews mention that they’re heavy
- No combs included
The Best Blades When Clipping a Cockapoo
The blade you use determines how short your cut. The higher the number blade, the closer the cut. Veterinary clips use No 30 or 40, whereas traditional poodle kennel clip (this is the clip used for comfort, not the show ring) is a No 5 or 7. Speciality blades such as the Skip Tooth blade make cutting through thick, coarse hair much easier.
We recommend a No 10 Narrow for a close cut around the stomach, head, and tail, and a No 5 for the body (wide or narrow, depending on your clipper!).
It may be that you want longer hair, in which case you’ll use a comb. Also called a guard or spacer, this is a piece of kit that attaches to the clipper and preserves the length of the hair, up to an inch long depending on the comb you use. Combs are specific to different clippers, so make sure compatible combs exist before purchasing your clippers.
